Determine the value of your belongings:
Make a complete inventory of your possessions; write down each item along with the purchase price and current price. Total up all of the amounts to get an estimated value of your property. It is also very helpful to take photos or video tapes of your belongs and document all serial numbers. If you need help estimating the value of your property contact your insurance agent to determine the level of coverage you will need.

Be sure to ask what is covered under your policy: Many renters' policies have dollar limits on certain items so be familiar with these particular limited items. Some Items, which may have dollar limits, are jewelry, firearms, money, and watercrafts.
